How to Apostille a Police Record (SKCK) in Indonesia

If you need to use your Indonesian Police Record (Surat Keterangan Catatan Kepolisian or SKCK) abroad, you must first get it apostilled. Without an apostille, most foreign authorities will not recognize your document as valid.
So how do you get it done? At a high level, you will need to do the following:
Obtain your Police Record (SKCK) from the Indonesian National Police Headquarters (Mabes Polri).
Translate the SKCK if needed.
Notarize the SKCK if needed.
Apostille the SKCK at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.
Some countries do not recognize apostilles and must go through the full legalization process.

1. Obtain Your SKCK
If you need to use your SKCK internationally, it must be issued by the Indonesian National Police Headquarters (Mabes Polri) in Jakarta. SKCKs from local police stations (Polres, Polsek, or Polda) are not eligible for apostille.
Additionally, only Indonesian citizens, ex-citizens, and foreigners who hold/held a KITAS/KITAP are eligible to apply for an SKCK. Foreigners on a tourist visa are not eligible to apply for an SKCK.
Once issued, your SKCK will be valid for six months and can be extended if needed.
Photocopy of ID card (KTP) with the original KTP for verification.
Photocopy of passport.
Photocopy of birth certificate or birth recognition letter.
Photocopy of Family Card (KK).
Photocopy of other identity cards for those who do not yet qualify for a KTP.
Six (6) colored passport photos, size 4 x 6 cm, with a red background:
Must wear modest and collared clothing. No facial accessories. Full-face visible. For applicants wearing a hijab, the face must be fully visible.
Proof of active JKN (BPJS Kesehatan) insurance.
Foreign Citizens (WNA)
Sponsorship letter from the company, institution, or individual responsible for the foreign national.
Photocopy of ID card (KTP) and marriage certificate if the sponsor is an Indonesian spouse.
Photocopy of passport.
Photocopy of Limited Stay Permit Card (KITAS) or Permanent Stay Permit Card (KITAP).
Fingerprint records and fingerprint formula document.
Six (6) colored passport photos, size 4 x 6 cm, with a yellow background:
Must wear modest and collared clothing. No facial accessories. Full-face visible. For applicants wearing a hijab, the face must be fully visible.
Proof of active JKN (BPJS Kesehatan) insurance if you have worked in Indonesia for at least six months.
2. Translate the SKCK (If Needed)
If your SKCK is needed for a country that does not recognize English or Indonesian as official languages, you may need to have it translated by a sworn translator, before proceeding with the apostille. Many embassies and foreign institutions require an officially translated version alongside the apostilled original.
3. Notarize the SKCK (If Needed)
Some countries require additional notarization before apostille. While this is not always necessary, it’s best to check with the receiving country’s authorities to avoid delays.
4. Apostille at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights
Once your SKCK is ready, it must be apostilled by the Directorate General of Legal Administration (AHU) at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. The apostille process confirms the document’s authenticity and makes it legally acceptable in countries that are part of the Hague Apostille Convention.
Steps to Apostille an SKCK:
Submit your application online through the AHU portal.
Upload a scanned copy of your SKCK (ensure it’s clear and legible).
Make the necessary payment (fees vary, so check the latest rates on the AHU website).
Wait for processing, which usually takes 5 working days.
Visit the Ministry of Law and Human Rights to collect your apostilled SKCK.
5. Final Check: Does Your Destination Country Require Legalization Instead?
If you intend to use your SKCK in a country that is not part of the Hague Apostille Convention, you will need full legalization instead of an apostille. This involves:
Legalization at the Indonesian Ministry Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham).
Legalization at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu).
Legalization at the embassy of the country where the SKCK will be used.
