If you still have questions after, don’t hesitate to send us a message!
Determining the Right Document
Let’s start by identifying the document you want to apostille:
- Indonesian Birth Certificate: This is called an Akta Kelahiran. It is issued at the Catatan Sipil (civil registry office) to persons born in Bali.
- Consular Report of Birth Abroad: When a child’s parents have foreign citizenship, they often report the birth of the child to their country’s embassy. The embassy will issue a document that is equal to a birth certificate from that country. This is usually known as a Report of Birth, or Consular Report of Birth Abroad, and it is equal to a birth certificate.
How To Apostille a Birth Certificate if You Already Have It
If you already have the birth certificate, here’s what to do.
First, check if the document needs to be notarized.
The following birth certificates most likely need to be notarized:
- Indonesian birth certificate, i.e. Akta Kelahiran without a QR code (before 2019).
- Consular Report of Birth Abroad issued by a foreign country.
If you have an Indonesian birth certificate with a QR code (2019 or after), then you can just print it on A4 paper and apostille it directly.
Here is how to get notarized copy of a birth certificate:
- Go in person to a notary in your area. Take your identification (passport, KTP, etc.) and take the birth certificate with you.
- Reach out to Bali Apostille Service and we can do it for you as part of the apostille process.
Second, you have to apostille the document.
To apostille the birth certificate, you have two options:
- Visit the Kemenkumham (Ministry of Law and Human Rights) in Bali. Take your identification with you (passport, KTP, etc.) and your birth certificate.
- Contact Bali Apostille Service for a fast and easy process from the comfort of your home.
The process normally takes 6 – 10 working days.
So we have explained how to apostille your birth certificate if you already have it.
But what if you don’t have your birth certificate?
